Career Services for Alumni



Southwestern University's award-winning Career Services Office offers services to alumni as well as students in need of job search and career management assistance. Resume reviews, job search strategy advice, graduate school planning and even networking and recruiting opportunities are available.

Available Resources

1. Appointments: Career Services staff are available for at least
    one 30-minute appointment for assistance with resume
    development, self-assessment, career exploration, the job
    search process and graduate school applications. Phone
    consultations are also possible for out-of-town alumni.

Campus Recruiting: Alumni are eligible to attend information sessions of companies recruiting
    at Southwestern and, if space permits, participate in interviews (provided they are preselected to interview
    by the employer). For details on recruiting events, see the Career Services

Pirate Link: Develop a professional resume to store on a web-based job search and resume referral site.
    You must be registered with
PirateLink and have an updated, targeted resume in the system to be eligible
    for on-campus recruiting opportunities aimed at alumni. Contact Career Services for instructions to

How Can You Help Southwestern Students?

1. Professional Practice Interview Day: A half-day program at least once a year in which employers conduct
    20-minute, videotaped mock interviews with students and then provide 20-minute critiques to improve
    interview skills. Each employer interviews five students.


2. Career
Connections BBQ: A lunchtime program in the Spring co-sponsored by Alumni Relations in which
    students enjoy barbecue with Alumni and then have 30-minute informational interview sessions with an
    Alum in an occupational area of interest.

3.
Careers In...(Field Specific Panel Discussions): A series of one-hour programs featuring alumni
    describing their career experiences in various industries (e.g. accounting, gaming, humanities, law,
    etc.). Topics rotate each semester.

4.
Senior Surge: A one-hour program in September to prepare seniors for the year, in which employers
    (can be Alumni) discuss resume development, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.

5.
Alumni Networking Contact: Are you interested networking with students in providing them with insights
    into your career path. If so, contact the Career Services Office.
