But the academic study of the way peopleproduce, procure, prepare, and eat food as a path to understandingculture is relatively new. This seminar will stimlulate itself at themulti-disciplinary interchange that characterizes this new field ofinquiry and will introduce participants to the ways in which practices ofeveryday life, as well as historical and literary texts, may be open tointellectual inquiry about food and eating. Among the questions we'llpursue are, what was the impact of West African slaves in thedevelopment of American food, what was the "home economics movement"and how did it effect gender roles, why is American food stillconsidered inferior as a world cuisine, and how are food and politicsintertwined.

Please RSVP by clicking the Registration button above.
